Structural Engineer

DEI is looking for a Structural Engineer to join either our southern Oregon or Reno office. The right person will have 5+ years experience in the design and preparation of construction documents for residential and commercial projects.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Produce organized structural calculations and construction documents as a part of submittals for approval.

  • Design efficient and code compliant structural systems.

  • Complete and deliver design projects on time and to budget.

  • Develop understanding of our clients’ needs to provide the best structural design.

  • Apply creative problem-solving skills to see beyond standard answers.

  • Manage projects to identify unusual or difficult problems and select appropriate methods and techniques to apply.

  • Develop and validate computer models of complex structural systems.

  • Communicates with staff concerning progress or problems regarding projects.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in structural engineering

  • SE or PE License required

  • Proficient with current building code and design standards

  • Competence with Excel, RISA 3D, RAM Steel, and/or other structural analysis software

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

  • An attitude of client care, ownership in one's work and the commitment to quality work

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without need for work visa or residency sponsorship

Entry Level Structural Engineer

DEI is looking for an entry level Structural Engineer to join either our southern Oregon or Reno office. The right person will have 1 - 3 years experience in the design and preparation of construction documents for residential and commercial projects.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Produce organized structural calculations as a part of submittal documents.

  • Design new efficient structural systems using steel, concrete, and strut and deliver design information on time.

  • Apply creative problem-solving skills to see beyond standard answers.

  • Consult with supervisor to screen assignments for unusual or difficult problems and select appropriate methods and techniques to apply.

  • Exercise judgment for engineering decisions for some aspects of design and receive supervision and direct input on new aspects of assignment.

  • Sketch design into completed working details and drawings based on engineering fundamentals.

  • Develop and validate computer models of complex structural systems.

  • Communicates with supervisor concerning progress or problems in an assigned task.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering

  • 1-3 years’ experience as a Structural Engineer designing structural building systems on complex projects

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without need for work visa or residency sponsorship

 

Work Hours

  • You will be required to work during typical office hours so you can be available when supervising engineers are in office and can provide you with guidance so work is completed.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passed Fundamental of Engineering Exam

  • Proficient with current building code and design standards

Engineering Intern

DEI is looking for a part-time engineering Intern to assist us with the following tasks:

 

  • Design Criteria

  • Determine Loading to Structural Members

  • Wind Area Tabulation

  • Seismic Area Tabulation

  • Simple Structural Member Calculations

  • Reports

 

The intern will take on the tasks they are capable of. The intern will be assisting us in the design of wood frame and light commercial structures. In the past we have had several interns move into positions with our office. 

 

We currently use Excel, Woodworks, Enercalc, RISA 2D and 3D for analysis and Revit and AutoCAD for drawings. 95 to 99% of our projects are completed in Revit.

  

Qualifications

  • A current junior or senior, or a sophomore with experience applicable to structural engineering.

  • Revit experience

 

Work Hours

  • You will be required to work during typical office hours so you can be available when supervising engineers are in office and can provide you with guidance so work is completed.
